Durrington Village Show and Vehicle Gathering 2011

On Sunday Durrington Village show shone through the showers and raised over £2k for Air Ambulance and local charities. Vehicle exhibitors braved the early morning heavy rain ready to show off their magnificent vintage vehicles and local organisations set up their Gazebos in windy wet conditions.

By 11am the sun started to shine and the show went on as normal. This years show had more attractions than before and the belly dancers, gun dog display, wood carving, baby and dog shows were complimented by a musical display by Durrington Walls Wind Band, Loud and Proud, Raise the Roof and rock group Dust and Gasoline.

The event was a great success and was an excellent family day out. Thanks to all those Stewards who helped and the Town Council but especially John Todd the event organiser. Roll on next year

Durrington Volunteers Open Library for Longer.

Pictured are Durrington Volunteers being trained by Wiltshire Council to run the local Durrington Library which Wiltshire Council would have closed without the volunteers commitment making sure that it stays open. In September the Library will be manned by volunteers and the opening hours are to be extended. Cllr Wright, who is the volunteer coordinator, said “This is an exciting time for Durrington; I am proud to be part of the loyal volunteer group that do so much wonderful work for our Village. Making the Library a central focus point for our village makes good sense”

Durrington Post Point moves to the Library

On Sept the 5th our local Post Point moves to Durrington Library and this valuable service delivered by the Town Council volunteer team will work alongside the Library Volunteers.

The Opening hours for the Post-Point will remain unchanged

Durrington and Amesbury Town Councils Go Head to Head

On Sat 16th July at Durrington Recreation Ground, Durrington Town Council fought out the Amesbury 2012 and beyond… Inter Town Challenge. Both teams fielded mixed sex sides and young and old enjoyed the event; an Amesbury player said “we must do more events like this; it’s good to see both councils enjoying each others company and having such fun” A trio of events took place and, whilst Durrington clearly won the 9 a side cricket match (Amesbury 25 for 3 and Durrington 37 for 1) they were outplayed in the Skittles section by (Amesbury 63 and Durrington 57 and, in the Quiz, Amesbury stormed home to be the overall 2011 winners.

The Team Captains, Chairman of Durrington Town Council Cllr Graham Wright and the Major of Amesbury, Cllr Andy Rhind-Tutt, both agreed that events like this are just the start of more exciting challenges to come between the two councils. Cllr Rhind-Tutt invited Durrington to a return match in Amesbury in 2012; he also said “with our Amesbury 2012 and beyond … initiative we openly invite all Parishes to consider inter Parish events that we hope will bring our community closer together. The afternoon games were followed by a delicious supper provided by the Durrington Team players and concluded with an exciting Rock Concert held at the recreation ground.
