Area Board Decision and recommended proposals

After a presentation by Wiltshire Council which explained the 4 options (this included the people’s option 4) and a full debate and the recommendation by both Bulford and Durrington Councils to adopt option 4, Cllr Wright proposed to the Area Board the following, ‘The Area Board recommend that the overall peoples choice, Option4, be formulated into a workable plan and that full consultation takes place with an impact analysis report before Wiltshire Council Cabinet makes its final decision’. This was seconded by Cllr Smale and also supported by Cllr West. Cllr Noeken, Cllr Westmoreland and the Chairman, Cllr Hewitt with a casting vote, voted against and the recommendation and the motion was lost.

There was then a debate about Option 1 and what improvements and help could be recommended. The following recommendations were made;

1. Shortening the time the bridge is closed by working longer hours per day
2. Reduction of business rates for local businesses that will be affected
3. Resurface Larkhill Road whist the road is closed.

The area board voted to adopt option1 with the above recommendations and this was passed.

Cllr Graham Wright then offered to liaise on behalf of the board with all local Schools, Doctors and businesses between now and May, when the work is planned to start, to minimise the impact of the 7.5 month road closure.
