Your Wiltshire Councillor

Wiltshire Council has looked at 3 options for the replacement of the structurally substandard Bulford Bridge. These 3 options and the impact of each plan will be discussed at a Special Meeting, called by your Town Council, to be held at the Village Hall on Sept 2nd 7pm.

The options are outlined below.

1) The full bridge replacement will take 10 months. The bridge will be totally closed for 7.5 months (225 days) starting in May through to Nov (pedestrian access will be available at all times) a detour for vehicles via the A303 is planned. (the finished product will be visually sympathetic to the conservation area) Cost £1.02M

2) The full bridge replacement will take 18 Months. The bridge will incur daily closures totalling 21 days in the 1st summer and 46 days in the 2nd summer. At all other times a vehicular 1 way traffic light working will be in operation with a weight limit of 3 tons and a max width of 6’6”. During closures a detour for vehicles via the A303 is planned (the finished product will be visually sympathetic to the conservation area and pedestrian access will be available at all times) Cost £1.34M

3) The full bridge replacement will take 18 Months. The bridge will incur daily closures totalling 30 days in the 1st summer and 5 days in the 2nd summer. At all other times a vehicular 1 way traffic light working will be in operation with a weight limit of 3 tons. During closures a detour for vehicles via the A303 is planned (this option would mean that more land will be required and the finished product will leave a wide pavement that may be visually unacceptable, pedestrian access will be available at all times) Cost £1.26M

Wiltshire Council recommends option 1 however the 3 options will be discussed at the Amesbury Board on the 8th Sept at Antrobus House. The Town council need to understand your view so that they can democratically represent the village at the Wiltshire Council Area Board meeting to which everyone is invited.
